Lock-ups fire is madness

- Dear Editor,

Those responsible for setting fire to the lock-ups in The Murray and Westwood most probably didn’t think about the potential consequences of their actions (Hunt for firebugs, June 14). They probably don’t care. Not only did they put people at risk, they diverted our firefighting resources meaning someone in real need might have had to wait longer for another crew and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Hope they get caught by the police. Name and address supplied

Political propaganda?

Dear Editor,

I have been a supporter of the East Kilbride News and a weekly customer for over 20 years, using a variety of services including intimations.

However, due to bias of political views leaning towards the SNP (as demonstrated on page 19 in your June 14 publication) you will be losing at least one loyal customer.

Since when has a local paper that should focus on local issues become a vehicle for SNP propaganda? Disappointed ex-customer, via email

•Editor’s Note: Thank you for your

custom and we hope you stay with us. The piece to which you refer is Linda Fabiani MSP’s column. Her SNP colleague, Dr Lisa Cameron, has one while Central Scotland List MSPs Graham Simpson (Conservatives) and Monica Lennon (Labour) also have columns. You are free to challenge their views here. The News is politically neutral and proud to be so.

Diabetes support

Dear Editor,

Living with Type 1 diabetes is difficult at any age. For young people who are also faced with the challenges of becoming an adult and making important life choices, managing a long-term condition can become that bit more burdensome.

At Diabetes Scotland we are embarking on an ambitious new project to empower young people aged 16 to 25, who are living with Type 1 diabetes, to influence and effect change in care, services and support.

Thanks to funding from Young Start at the Big Lottery Fund we are currently recruiting volunteers from all over Scotland to join our Young Leaders programme.

Those involved will be given the opportunity to plan and deliver a range of activities to raise awareness and tackle the issues that are important to them.

To any readers aged 16 to 25 years and living with Type 1 diabetes, I’d urge you to go to our website www.diabetes.org. uk/scotland to find out more and apply.

If you have any questions you can also contact me on email at Catriona. Stewart@diabetes.org.uk or phone (0141) 245 6380. Catriona Stewart, Youth Development Officer, Diabetes Scotland

Gala extravaganza

Dear Editor,

Enjoyed reliving Strathaven Gala Day all over again in the paper (Gala Day Special, June 14)

The day was such a success and everyone had a great time. The Gala court looked fantastic and the parade very colourful.

Well done to the committee and all who came out to support the gala. Proud Strathaven resident
