School review
Education Scotland is satisfied with the overall quality of provision at Wester Overton Primary School. The body is confident that, with support from South Lanarkshire Council, the school has the capacity to continue to improve. As a result, they will make no further visits in connection with this inspection. The area lead officer will continue to monitor progress. As part of its arrangements for reporting to parents on the quality of education, the council will inform parents about the school’s progress. Key strengths of the school:Friendly, well-mannered children who speak positively about their school; A supportive learning environment where staff know children well and work to create a positive ethos in the school; The supportive and inclusive ethos of the nursery class with children’s wellbeing at the centre – this helps children to feel secure, confident and make good progress in their learning; The leadership of the head teacher in pursuing the school’s improvement agenda. The following areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the head teacher and a representative from the council with goals set as follows: Increase the pace of change to ensure more timely introduction of developments that ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners and involve all key stakeholders including parents and partners; In developing the curriculum, ensure the effective use of assessment and tracking of children’s progress to improve attainment for all children; Continue to develop consistency in learning and teaching, ensuring an appropriate level of pace and challenge for all; Continue to develop leadership at all levels, including the ways in which children can lead their own learning.
