Former Celtic ace Frank McAvennie was the star guest as East Kilbride YM hosted their annual player of the year awards.

The town’s amateur club held their big night at the Ballerup Hall and once again there was a fantastic turn out with everyone agreeing this was the best ever.

YM have three teams playing across the amateur ranks with the players from the Caledonian, Greater Glasgow Premier and Scottish Amateur Leagues all recognised.

For the Caledonian League team James Cameron won player of the year, Ross McDonagh was named players’ player of the year, while Craig Tocher picked up the top overall goalscorer prize and Ross McDonagh collected the award for top scorer in the Caledonian League Division One.

For the GGPL team, Grant Gibson won player of the year, players’ player of the year was Ross Anderson and the top goalscorer was Mikey Carrol.

Finally, the Scottish Amateur team’s player of the year was Ross Calder. Ryan Kelly collected the players’ player of the year and Barry Kelly was top scorer.

John McKelvie was the compere for the evening and he was outstanding in overseeing a busy night for the club, which began with Frank McAvennie delighting the crowd with his exploits from his footballing days.

Next up was former Motherwell star John Gahagan and, although he is well known as being one of the best on the circuit, he excelled himself with a display which earned a rousing standing ovation.
