A fake Police Scotland page on Facebook has been reported to the online giant – by Police Scotland.

An account that impersonates the official Lanarkshire Police division page was set up on Sunday.

It caused a major online frenzy after it appeared to make an ‘official statement’ announcing the arrest of one person and declaring the innocence of two others.

A statement on the ‘Police Scotland Lanarkshire 22113’ page then went on to advise: “If you have any further information please contact us on 101.”

It even signed off with the slogan “keeping people safe”.

Over 300 Facebookers responded to the statement with one saying: “Funny how this page has just been made.”

And another person added: “I’m gobsmacked.”

When contacted, Police Scotland confirmed that the page was fake and had nothing to do with themselves or the Lanarkshire Police Division.

In a statement, they said: “This page has been reported to Facebook as it is an impersonation of Police Scotland’s Lanarkshire Police Division page.

“For clarity, the official Lanarkshire Police Division Facebook page is www.facebook.com/ LanarkshirePoliceDivision.”

A furious dad has slammed South Lanarkshire Council after part of his kitchen ceiling collapsed – narrowly missing his fivemonth-old baby boy.

Craig Reid, 37, from Greenhills was decanted from his home for a week with his partner Corenne, 25, and their three young children.

Tests have since come back confirming asbestos was in the council property – four months after Craig first reported a leak.

He claims that despite various visits from council workmen, the leak was allowed to continue for months and its source was never properly investigated – leading to the ceiling collapse.

Craig also now fears for his family’s health, claiming any asbestos would have been disturbed when a council workman drilled into the kitchen ceiling.

Livid Craig told the News: “It has been absolute hell and just a calamity of errors.

“I though I was going to be homeless numerous times when we were decanted from the house this week.

“Initially I thought I was going to have to take my family to the homeless unit at Lindsay House but was then booked into a hotel – but only for a night – when we were out the house for a week.

“I had to phone Lindsay House several times in the middle of the night to make sure we could stay in the hotel.”

He went on: “The problem started with a damp patch on the kitchen ceiling, which then began to bow. I had various workmen from the council out and was told the whole ceiling may have to come down but they wouldn’t touch it because there could be asbestos.

“But on another visit a hole was drilled into the ceiling – despite being told there could be asbestos.

“Nothing was done and the day after returning from holiday a big chunk of the ceiling caved in, Thieves have once again targeted an East Kilbride business – stealing a car and high-end equipment from a garage.

Craig has accused the council of putting his family in danger.

“It really does beggar belief the way this has been dealt with,” he added.

“We are now back in the house having been told the asbestos has been removed but my family could have been breathing in the lethal substance for months.

“At the end of the day had this been properly investigated four months ago and fixed, the ceiling

Daniel Lowe is the council’s executive director of housing and technical resources.

He said: “Repairs were carried out at Mr Reid’s home on April 13 this year and again on April 28 due to a suspected radiator leak that resulted in a repair being needed to the kitchen ceiling.

“It was noted at this time that the ceiling had an asbestoscontaining Artex coating which approximately £2500 were stolen including two chain saws, a leaf blower and two hedge cutters. The items were the Stihl brand and are of distinctive appearance being orange and white in colour.

There has been a delay in the council attending to carry out the repair to the ceiling which was in part due to a difficulty in arranging access with Mr Reid.

“A leak from the shower was then reported on June 30 which resulted in damage to a section of the kitchen ceiling. It was decided that Mr Reid and his family should be decanted while repairs were carried out. Works were completed on July 7 and Mr Reid and his family have now returned home.”

A number of homes and businesses across East Kilbride have been targeted by raiders in the past few months.
