YOUNG FARMERS REAP THE REWARDS
East Kilbride Young Farmers Club showed off their skills at the West Area sports tournament.
Members were amongst the top performers at the town’s John Wright Sports Centre, competing in netball and football, as they took on farmers’ club rivals from Ayrshire, Clyde and Central and Dumfries districts.
The netball team retained their West Area Trophy – coming out on top over Ayrshire in the final.
Netball convener Jill Strang said: “What a privilege!
“The competition is tough and really good netball is played.
“The team practice and play well together. Our shooters Kyra and Hannah were fabulous and hardly missed a shot.”
The boys were also in good form as they clinched runners-up spot in the football competition following a hardfought final with Biggar.
In the volleyball event, the club did not place but members see it as something they can work on for next year.
Club chairperson Katie Brown commented: “I am very pleased with the results at the sports tournament. The club had been attending many tournaments and doing very well.
“We have a busy summer coming up with our new charity dog show, beach volleyball, clay pigeon shoot and athletics night.”
