Travel Centre trouble East Kilbride News online readers had their say on Strathclyde PassengerTransports (SPT) call to reduce opening hours at the town’s travel centre to just one day a week.

A consultation period has ended and bosses will press ahead with their plans which means reduced opening hours on a permanent basis.

Margaret Carfrae said:“East Kilbride is getting bigger and bigger but services are a disgrace. Police station closes at 5pm.You can only record a birth , death or marriage two days a week. No decent shops any more and the amount of empty premises is disgraceful.”

Claire Lees said:“Even one day during the week and one day at the weekend would be more helpful.”

Pauline Dawson said:“Should never have been shut. Total inconvenience.”

James Gillespie posted:“Yes, this is the new booming town.

“Booming! With out-of-reach priced housing. Lack of facilities. Our Red Deer Bowling Club is another well-attended facility under scrutiny.”

Helen Boyd added:“Why is it the bigger EK gets the more things either shut down or no longer cater for public needs?”
