Time of Life for Duncanrig students
Fourth-year drama students from Duncanrig Secondary were treated to some live theatre to help them with their studies.
As part of an ongoing partnership with East Kilbride Rep Theatre Club, 52 pupils were invited on a tour of the club’s rehearsal studio and the nearby Village Theatre.
Despite being an amateur unit, the EK Rep is one of the busiest theatre companies in the country.
Established over 50 years ago, the Rep has built up a great reputation staging top productions throughout the year. The group produces five plays, hosts the annual one-act play festival Rep Fest and runs a two-week pantomime each season.
Visiting drama students took part in a workshop with Dave Bennet who directed the Rep’s last play of the season, Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Time of My Life’and were introduced to various aspects of theatre production including sound, lighting, props, costume and set building – giving them an insight into how live performances are produced.
The tour concluded with a Q&A session with theatre technicians and the group were welcomed back later in the day to take in the Rep’s‘Time of My Life’.
Duncanrig drama teacher Lauren Daley said: “We had a fantastic day at the tour and a great evening at the performance.
“We have certainly enjoyed working with the Rep this year, and appreciate everything they have arranged throughout the year, it has offered some fantastic opportunities for our pupils.
“A few of our S4 cohort have asked about joining the Rep when they turn 16 – so I’m sure the Rep will hear from them when the day comes.”
The EK Rep board are considering extending the programme to other secondary schools in East Kilbride in the future.
A spokesman said:“The EK Rep is a big supporter of new, young talent in drama and gladly welcomed the teachers and pupils.
“We hope the relationship between the club and the school continues to grow.”
