Pamela’s bouncing after sports award

-

South Lanarkshire’s top sportsmen and women were honoured recently at the 21st annual South Lanarkshire Council Sports Awards – and it was a good night for East Kilbride.

Three of the main winners on the night have links to the town.

St Leonards trampolinist Pamela Clark won the senior female performer of the year prize, although she was unable to attend, and her dad Robert accepted the prize on her behalf.

Meanwhile, coach of the year went to Hamilton Karate coach Jim Ross, who runs East Kilbride Yamakai Club at the United Reformed Church in East Mains.

Finally, junior female winner Bethan Goodwin plays for East Kilbride Netball Club.

Other winners on the night were Hamilton paralympian and Boccia player Stephen McGuire, who won senior male performer, and Clydesdale swimmer Mark Ford, who claimed the junior male prize.

The ceremony, held at the Town House, Hamilton, last month was an opportunity for South Lanarkshire to showcase its talented performers and coaches who are already successful local Sports Council Award winners.

The trophies were presented on the night by Provost Ian McAllan.

He said:“This has been a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge all of the excellent achievements of our nominees and winners from across South Lanarkshire.

“I can only imagine the hard work, sacrifice and dedication it takes to reach the levels that our winners have, and I wish each one of them every success in what is a rich and diverse range of sports.”
