EK shoppers have their say on subject

The SNP leader of South Lanarkshire Council came under fire for a tweet he sent last week.

Councillor John Ross was responding to a tweet about comments made by Labour MSP Jackie Baillie which suggested she was a “proven liar”.

Replying, Councillor Ross wrote: “Jackie Baillie epitomises everything that the Labour branch office in Scotland stands for Awa an bile yer he’d wuman ye talk pure mince.”

The News took to the streets to find out what locals thought of what he said.

Shona Kinloch, from Westwood, said: “I don’t think it was sexist but I don’t think it was a very nice thing for him to say.

“I don’t like to see politicians personally attack each other. You just want them to get on with it.”

Gary Anderson, from Westwood, said: “You have to have a thick skin in politics. Maybe he shouldn’t have said it but I don’t think he was being serious.”

James Richardson, from West Mains, thought it was a bid from the SNP council leader to seem more relatable.

“You see a lot of Scottish politicians trying to capture the younger vote by talking in slang terms,” he said. “Mhairi Black has managed to do it so this sounds like a similar thing.”

William Shaw added: “The world is too serious nowadays. He’s only having a bit of a laugh.”
