Staysafe fromthe scammers

-

East Kilbride Citizen’s Advice Bureau is holding a series of events to help stop residents falling victim to con artists.

Staff will be hold events in East Kilbride and Strathaven to encourage people to report and talk about scams.

Scammers can strike at any time, from coldcalling people with a fake investment opportunity to posting online adverts for products which do not exist.

People will learn the tricks and tactics scammers use, such as making contact out of the blue and piling pressure on people to agree to a deal on the spot.

The events will take place at various locations until Friday, July 28.

CAB manager Michelle Campbell said: “Scams are very common and can affect absolutely anyone. They can cost people hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

“It’s heartbreaking for our advisers to see local people conned out of their money, especially when scams can so often be avoided.

“Our message to people is that you need to be vigilant and watch out for scams and there are some easy steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.”

For information about specific events call into the CAB office at East Kilbride Bus Station or email manager@eastkilbridecab. casonline.org.uk.
