Lanarkshire posties are first class

-

Lanarkshire residents are among the most likely to see their post delivered on time.

The ML postcode saw 93.9 per cent of first class post delivered within a day in 2016/17.

That was ahead of the target, which was set at 91.5 per cent.

And it was also better than the previous year’s figure, which saw 92.8 per cent delivered within 24 hours.

However, it was behind the 2014/15 figure of 94 per cent and the 2013/14 level of 94.7 per cent.

Across the country 111 out of 118 postcode areas reached the target to deliver 91.5 per cent of first class post on time, up from 104 in 2015/16.

Sue Whalley, chief operations officer with the Royal Mail, said:“We are very proud of the service we offer our customers.

“Our postmen and women deliver to some of the most challenging performance targets in Europe.

“I would like to thank all our people for their great efforts throughout the year. We are committed to maintaining and improving these high standards of service for all our customers.”

The DG (Dumfries and Galloway) and EH (Edinburgh) postcodes were the best-performing in Scotland, both with 94.2 per cent of first class post delivered within a day in 2016/17.

IV (Inverness) postcodes had the worst performance in Britain for first class mail, with 89.3 per cent delivered on time.

The Christmas period is exempt from the targets because of exceptionally high mail volumes.

But cyber week, created by marketing companies to persuade people to shop online in late November and early December, falls outside these exemptions while also taking post to levels more commonly associated with Christmas.

Royal Mail’s quality of service is measured by market research company TNS Global.
