Community council Matters arising from previous minutes: Robert reported he had been in touch with the Post Office regarding the loss of postboxes on Colinhill Road and Commercial Road. This had resulted from the change in lampposts. There is no intention to replace these as the provision of postboxes meets the rules regarding geographic­al provision. PC Howie reported on incidents over the past month. These included two road traffic offences, two assaults and two housebreak­ings. The two community police officers are very visible now. The issue of items found in the Common Green was discussed. An extension of the speed limits is proposed on the A71 to take account of the developmen­ts there. Supplement­ary proposals to the main issues report on planning have been published. There are some consequenc­es for land on the Glassford Road but otherwise no other issues in Strathaven. There have been enquiries relating to the changes at Strathaven Medical Centre. Les will seek clarificat­ion of these proposals. The condition of the cemetery was raised and the issues of uncut grass and overflowin­g bins. Councillor Cooper said there had not yet been a new area identified to deal with the potential non-availabili­ty of plots in Strathaven. Councillor Cooper will take up the need to keep the cemetery well kept with council officials. CARS- Les reported some good developmen­ts in this area. Promising uptake developmen­ts include Green Street, Kirk Street and Lethame Road. Maintenanc­e guides are available and these have been issued in the conservati­on area. 16 shops are involved in the shop front programme. Linda outlined a quiz evening she is organising on July 21 for charity. A four-strong CC team agreed to participat­e. Morag regretted that the defibrilla­tor trainers were not available at the Festival of Sport. Margot reported around 500 visitors already to the John Hastie Museum Exhibition and it continues to run until August 13. The John Hastie Museum Trust is holding an antiques roadshow in the Strathaven Hotel on October 8. Gordon had reported by e mail concerns about the increased signage around Strathaven Councillor Dorman has been dealing with fly tipping issues and pavement parking potential changes. Councillor Campbell is involved in matters relating to the continuing upheaval with our roads in the light of constant utilities work. Councillor Cooper reported some informatio­n from Ms Forbes that they are working with Historic Scotland on matters surroundin­g the state of the Castle. The next meeting will take place on August 29 at 7pm In the Ballgreen Hall.
