St Kenneth’s squad earn six of the best
St Kenneth’s Primary School ended the season on a high after winning a host of medals at the South Lanarkshire Track and Field Championships.
The youngsters won six individual medals across the two track and two field events, as well as two sets of team gold, two sets of team silver and team silver in the 4x100m relay.
The area finals at the John Wright Sports Centre in East Kilbride were contested by pupils from all over South Lanarkshire.
Pupils competed in long jump and javelin events as well as 100m, 600m and 4 x 100m relay races. The individual prize winners on the day were: Callum Donaldson (P7): gold, 600m. Madeline Hopkins (P6): gold, long jump; silver, 100m; Michael McKinley (P6): silver, long jump; bronze, 600m; Rachel Davidson (P6): bronze, 600m. Callum Donaldson, said: “I stayed in first position for the whole race so I’m really happy to win. I was cheering so much when I crossed the line.” In the team events St Kenneth’s won: Gold, P7 girls 4 x 100m: Cait Minster, Tito Olelakan, Emma Louise O’Neill and Madeleine Hopkins;
Gold, P7 boys 4 x 100m: Michael McKinley, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Ciaran Blake and Benjamin Paul;
Silver, P7 girls 4 x 100m: Lily Scarlett Burns, Gemma Woods, Emma McBride and Sophie Wallace;
Silver, P7 boys 4 x 100m: Callum Donaldson, Max Giordano, Lewis Herd and Ross Gillanders.
This success came after outstanding performances at the Scottish Cross Country Championships in Kirkcaldy in April and the EK Track Championships in May.
Coach Richard Wyatt said: “The squad have shown their talent and ability in these outstanding performances.
“To win medals at national level and to win so many medals in almost every event at the track championships earlier in the year is a fabulous achievement.
“I am very proud of the team, who have had a sensational 2017 so far.”
