-

Police are hunting a St Leonards man accused of assaulting and threatening to stab officers.

Andrew Smith, 34, of Glen Tennet, failed to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday to answer to a string of charges and Sheriff Daniel Kelly granted a warrant for his arrest.

Smith is accused of threatening to stab police officers, resisting arrest, striking two police officers on the head with a key and punching and kicking them to the head and body.

The alleged incidents happened at Glen Isla on December 11.

Smith faces further charges of driving along the A725 Kingsway without insurance on May 24 while on bail and failing to surrender particulars of alterations to the name and address on his driving licence.

He is also accused of being concerned in the supply of cocaine at the Kingsway while on bail. And it is claimed Smith was in possession of a class C drug at his St Leonards home.

Along with co-accused Alan Craik, 35, of Warwick, Calderwood, Smith faces charges of being concerned in the supply of a class C drug and possession of cocaine, cannabis and a third class C drug at Smith’s home on December 11.

Smith previously denied the charge and Craik, who appeared from custody, also pleaded not guilty.

The case was continued to the trial diet on August 7. Craik was remanded in custody.
