Raising cash was icing on the cake

-

A fundraiser enjoyed some sweet success at a cupcake day recently.

Ruth Miller raised more than £80 for East Kilbride Dementia Carers Group with the support of her colleagues at Greenburn and Maxwellton primaries.

Friends of Ruth helped her bake a batch or two of delicious cupcakes and donations were made to the carers’ group.

The avid fundraiser has held a number of events for the dementia carers group in the past, including decorating her home at Christmas in aid of the charity.

She said: “I would like to thank all my colleagues in Greenburn and Maxwellton primary schools for all their kind donations and all my friends for making lovely goodies for the day.

“I have raised over £80 now and hope this can be used to take the service users out for a wee fish supper and an ice cream.

“I think this day centre is absolutely fabulous and will do anything I can to raise money for it.

“Myself and my fiancé, James, have worked with people with dementia and my fiancé works in a day centre, so we see the heartbreak that this cruel illness can cause.

“My daughters and I are always trying to raise money for charities and this year my Christmas decorations will be for the British Heart foundation in memory of my dad.”

And to continue their fundraising for the dementia carers group Ruth and her daughter Rachel are walking two miles a day every day for two weeks around the James Hamilton Heritage Loch.

Group co-ordinator Brian Doig said: “For Rachel to be so passionate about supporting charity at such a young age is a wonderful example and encouragement to us all and we are extremely grateful for her mum, Ruth’s, continued support.”
