Help hip-hop team in telly talent contest

- Andrea O’Neill

East Kilbride dance group Nu-Hype are appealing for the support of their hometown to help their hip hop dancers win a televised talent contest.

Dance team Nu-Lite and six-yearold Greenhills boy Kai McDonald (aka Lil K) – the youngest overall competitor – are set to feature on SKY TV after making it through to the grand final of TeenStar.

After impressing national talent competition judges with their performance skills, the College Milton-based group are now gearing up for the televised final of the singing and dancing competition in St Alban’s, London this Saturday.

With the text vote now open the group are appealing to the people of East Kilbride to help keep them on the leaderboard for their chance to shine.

Dance teacher Claire Curran told the News: “We are pushing for votes to help widen our chance of winning in our sections.

“We have a real chance of winning overall for dancing which would be a massive title for us to achieve because this is the first year TeenStar has included dancing.

“It’s such a hard competition to win – all the children are so talented – and the biggest we’ve went for but the kids have trained so hard for this contest and have just as much chance of winning as any of the other acts.

“If we win it’s a bonus, but if not the kids have enjoyed the process, it’s the taking part that counts and they love to compete.”

Competing for Nu-Lite are: Katie Sherry, Sophie Grubb, Kira Ramsay, Katy Melville, Leah Melville, Megan Cush and Kai McDonald.

To vote for Nu-Lite Text TEEN50 to 84222. To vote for Kai McDonald Text TEEN 11 to 84222.

Votes cost £1 plus your standard network rate. Voting closes before Saturday’s show.

Nu-Hype have their sights set on the UDO World Street Dance Championships 2017 next. The event takes place in Glasgow’s SECC Glasgow from August 24 to 27.
