Chapelton girl honouring grandad
A Miss Scotland finalist who held a charity night in memory of her beloved grandad raised over £2000 for a cause close to her heart.
Stunning Paula McCormack, 22, from near Chapelton, will take to the stage tomorrow in Glasgow to try and win the prestigious title.
Scientist Paula, who works in the labs at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in the city, shed three stone after a great deal of encouragement from grandad Peter Hay.
Sadly, he died at the beginning of the year, aged 89, from bladder cancer.
Peter was initially diagnosed nearly five years ago but fought the disease thanks to his strength and fitness from years as a keen cyclist and swimmer.
Former Duncanrig Secondary pupil Paula is using use her time as a Miss Scotland finalist to raise cash for the radiotherapy research centre at the Beatson in Glasgow where her grandad was treated.
She recently held a fundraiser in Sinatras in East Kilbride town centre with DJ George Bowie in attendance as part of her bid to win the prestigious Miss Scotland title.
Paula said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along and supported me.
“It was much appreciated and I was delighted to raise what I did.
“I am really looking forward to the Miss Scotland finals and just hope I can do my grandad proud.”
Paula also organised a number of other fundraiser with friends and family and also ay her work, supported by colleagues.
