McClung can’twait tofacehis oldboss

East Kilbride Thistle player/ coach Steven McClung is relishing the visit of his former bosses when the Jags welcome Wishaw to the Showpark this weekend.

Ex-Jags gaffers John Brogan and Colin Mitchell were appointed as the new management team at Wishaw Juniors last week and face their old club in their first match in charge.

McClung, now in his fifth spell with EK, said: “It’ll be good to pit my wits against them as a coach for the first time.

“I pulled my hamstring a few weeks back, so I’m not going to play but I’ll do my best from the sidelines.

“When I first joined Thistle in 2003, they’d just won the Sectional League Cup and then the following season I helped them get promoted.

“Brogan was the manager then and Mitch was in the team with me and (fellow Jags coach) Paul Bain. Mitch brought me back to Thistle when he was the manager, so it’ll be good to catch up.”

The Jags started their league campaign with a 4-1 win over Shotts, while Wishaw’s clash with Yoker was postponed.

And McClung is hopeful of earning the bragging rights over his mates.

The 34-year-old added: “Mitch was at the Showpark watching us on Saturday as their game was off, so he’ll have got a good look at us.

“But whether or not he can stop us is another thing, the way the boys have been playing.

“They are really high in confidence. These guys are playing for the jersey and each other, so it should be a good game.”
