He represented Scotland at Under-18s and U-16s level in pool and was a lifelong Manchester United fan. Tributes have flooded in for popular Craig who leaves behind devastated partner Leeann and their two young daughters, along with mum Catherine, dad Irvine and sister Lynne.

Shattered Irvine told the News this week: “We are all utterly heartbroken.

“Craig was loved so very much by all of us – he had a heart of gold. Leeann has lost her soulmate and his precious girls a dad who was utterly devoted to them.

“He had everything in life you could ask for.”

The heartbroken family of tragic dad Craig Galt told the News that their “beautiful boy” touched the hearts of all who met him. Police launched Young dad Craig Galt

Tributes have flooded in for a popular Murray man described as a “devoted dad with a heart of gold”.

The body of Craig Galt, 32, was discovered in a wooded area at Langlands Moss on Wednesday afternoon after a large-scale police search.

Officers confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Craig’s heartbroken family told the News they have been “completely overwhelmed” with the support and moving tributes for the beloved son, partner, dad, brother and uncle.

Former Duncanrig Secondary pupil Craig, who worked as a transport coordinator with SPX Clyde Union Pumps, leaves behind partner Leeann, their daughters, Chloe, 12, and nine-year-old Aimee, his mum Catherine, dad Irvine and sister Lynne.

He was also a much-loved brotherin-law and uncle to Victoria and Jessica.

Craig represented Scotland at Under-18s and U-16s level in pool and was a lifelong Manchester United fan, travelling to Old Trafford with his dad as a boy and latterly with friends.

His last outing to Old Trafford was near the end of last season with his good friend Stuart Coats.

Friends from far and wide — some of whom Craig hadn’t seen for a number of years — have left moving messages on social media.

Devastated dad Irvine told the News: “Our wonderful boy truly had a heart of gold and touched everyone who met him. He will be sorely missed.

“We are all utterly devastated and are finding it hard to take in.

“He and his partner, Leeann, were soulmates and he lived for his girls —he had everything in life you could ask for.

“They knew each other as children and at school but got back in touch a few years after they left and were perfect together.

“Leeann’s family couldn’t have been fonder of Craig and they too are devastated.

“He was devoted to his two girls and would take them off on adventures whenever he could —despite trips abroad, they loved Craig Tara in Ayr and had a ball when they went with their dad just before the schools went back.”

Irvine went on: “Craig would have done absolutely anything for anyone and was an emotional lad who cared deeply about people.

“After the husband of one of our neighbours passed away a year or so ago, he vowed to and did everything he could to help her with whatever she needed.

“Everyone got on with Craig and while we knew he was well-liked, we didn’t realise just how popular he was.

“The support and messages we have received from people has been completely overwhelming but we would like to thank everyone for all their kind words and heartfelt sympathy — we couldn’t have got through the last few days without them.

“A friend he made when we were in Alcudia on a family holiday in 1994 —and who he hadn’t seen since — even got in touch with us. We couldn’t believe it.”

Irvine said among the many memories he has of his son and best “buddy” was the times they spent watching his beloved Manchester United.

“Craig was just daft about the club and as a boy I took him down there and then as he got older he went with his friends,” Irvine added.

“When he was only 10 or 11 we went on a bus trip with the Glasgow Manchester United Supporters’ Club and he got to meet Ryan Giggs — he was over the moon to get his photo taken with him, if a little overawed. He just kept calling him ‘Mr Giggs’.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm the body of 32-year-old Craig Galt was discovered in woods at Langlands Moss. There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Craig’s funeral will take place on Friday, September 8 at 10.15am at South Lanarkshire Crematorium for family and friends to celebrate his life.

His family have said the service will be informal and if mourners wish they can dress in a little red for Craig’s beloved Manchester United.
