Dear Ed­i­tor,

Since their last ‘nos­tal­gia day’ East Kil­bride Her­itage Group has been col­lect­ing sto­ries about peo­ple mov­ing to the new town and their ex­pe­ri­ences of life here.

Work­ing closely with South La­nark­shire Coun­cil li­braries, there is now a sub­stan­tial ar­chive of East Kil­bride her­itage in­for­ma­tion which can be found in the ar­chive/ref­er­ence sec­tion at East Kil­bride Cen­tral Li­brary.

Top­ics in­clude – An in­tro­duc­tion and con­cept of East Kil­bride; a study of so­cial hous­ing in East Kil­bride; East Kil­bride Wikipedia pages 2013 and an East Kil­bride De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion sou­venir book.

Pic­tures and sto­ries can also be found in a folder en­ti­tled ‘nos­tal­gia days’.

An­other folder fea­tures de­tails about the East Kil­bride Scouts, photos of the first nurs­ery opened in East Kil­bride and much more.

And the peo­ple’s story oral his­to­ries con­tain in­ter­views with no­table res­i­dents such as Sandy McBain and his days at the Olympia and tales from Dr Henry Doig about medicine in early East Kil­bride.

The her­itage group will be hold­ing fur­ther nos­tal­gia days at the li­brary so look out in the News and the lo­cal li­brary for de­tails.
