Do you have a tale to tell?
Dear Editor,
Since their last ‘nostalgia day’ East Kilbride Heritage Group has been collecting stories about people moving to the new town and their experiences of life here.
Working closely with South Lanarkshire Council libraries, there is now a substantial archive of East Kilbride heritage information which can be found in the archive/reference section at East Kilbride Central Library.
Topics include – An introduction and concept of East Kilbride; a study of social housing in East Kilbride; East Kilbride Wikipedia pages 2013 and an East Kilbride Development Corporation souvenir book.
Pictures and stories can also be found in a folder entitled ‘nostalgia days’.
Another folder features details about the East Kilbride Scouts, photos of the first nursery opened in East Kilbride and much more.
And the people’s story oral histories contain interviews with notable residents such as Sandy McBain and his days at the Olympia and tales from Dr Henry Doig about medicine in early East Kilbride.
The heritage group will be holding further nostalgia days at the library so look out in the News and the local library for details.
Meanwhile, the group would like to hear your story.
If anyone has any tales they would like included in the archive, or would like to join the steering group, please contact Hazel Brown at ekheritage@ outlook.com or Ken Lawton on (01355) 227018. Ken Lawton, East Kilbride Heritage Group
