Book festival trip

-

Read all about it Calderglen High School returned to the Edinburgh Children’s Book Festival, joined by senior pupils from Sanderson High.

Traffic mayhem prevented them from making a scheduled stop at the Scottish Parliament for the World Press Photography Exhibition but this gave pupils longer at the Charlotte Square festival village.

English teacher Ross Meikle said:“Most pupils made good use of their book discount vouchers buying a wide variety of books of many genres, including signed copies of our featured authors Robert Muchamore and Marcus Sedgewick.

“Muchamore gave a very informal Q&A session, with Calderglen and Sanderson pupils well represented by several intelligent and probing questions on the career of a professional writer.

“He did his sales no harm at all by announcing that his books had been banned by some local authorities in England, leading to a queue round the building for signed copies of his latest novel ‘GoneWild’.”

Sedgewick used a slide show to provide background information on his latest novel‘Saint Death’set on the Mexican–US border.

Calderglen pupils asked questions which delighted the author with their in-depth knowledge of his work.

Mr Meikle said:“Once again, it was a pleasure to organise and lead this trip.”
