Partick star hits 50 goals

-

Chris Erskine admits it was a bitter sweet moment as he racked up his 50th goal for Partick Thistle.

The Jags midfielder put his side 2-1 up against Aberdeen to hit the milestone in their Scottish Premiership clash on August 26.

However, Erskine’s joy was shortlived as the Dons rallied to win a thrilling match 4-3 at Firhill.

And he told the News the result put a dampener on his big moment.

The 30-year-old, from Lindsayfield, said:“When you hit a milestone like 50 goals you want it to be special or for it to mean something, so it was a bit disappointing to get the goal and have it count for nothing in the end.

“We were 2-1 up and Aberdeen were there for the taking. When you score three goals at home you should really take something from the game.”

Erskine, now in his second spell at Partick after playing for Dundee United between 2013-16, notched his first Jags goals back in 2009 when he netted twice in a 5-1 win over Berwick in the League Cup.

And he’s scored 48 more since, guiding Thistle to the First Division title in 2009 and helping them to a top-six finish in the Premiership last season. So what’s his top Jags goal? “It might not have been my best goal but my favourite one was against Falkirk when we won the league,”said the winger.

“It had just been announced that I was leaving for Dundee United on a pre-contract.

“I got a bit of stick from the fans for that but I wanted to go out on a high, so to go and score the goal that clinched the league for us was a great feeling.

“I scored 16 goals that season. That’s the most memorable season of my career so far.”
