Ferris returns to rivals

- Paul Thomson

Aidan Ferris reckons his return to Lowland League leaders BSC Glasgow is a“win, win”situation.

The 21-year-old joined East Kilbride in the summer from BSC before boss Billy Stark was appointed as Martin Lauchlan’s replacement at K-Park.

But after just one goal in eight appearances the striker is heading back after his Kilby contract was terminated on Monday.

Ferris re-joins Stephen Swift’s BSC with the side sitting two points clear of East Kilbride after seven games.

And he bolsters their strong striking options which includes two of the Lowland League’s top goalscorers, Jack Smith and Martin Grehan, who have netted 12 goals between them.

Ferris told the News:“From my point of view this is win, win.

“The manager (Stark) said my game time would be limited with the likes of Ross McNeil and Liam Coogans doing well and scoring goals.

“I’m 21 and I want to be playing games, so I agreed with East Kilbride it would be best to terminate my contract.

“Fortunately, I’m still fresh in the manager’s mind at BSC Glasgow and he has been on the phone to get me back there. I worked with him (Swift) for a spell before I came to EK and he tried to persuade me to stay in the summer.

“I wanted to go to EK and see what I could do there but it hasn’t worked out.

“I know I’ll have to work my way into the squad there with Jack Smith and Martin Grehan doing well, but I have no doubt I have what it takes to get back into the team.”

Kilby now find themselves in a situation where two of their former players - Jack Smith has had two spells at K-Park and scored 34 goals in the 2014/15 season - could stand in the way of their title defence.

And Ferris said:“It’s a strange situation to be in.

“If I win the league with BSC and stop East Kilbride in the process, that’s football. I’m not going to get tied into any rivalry.

“I just want to get back to playing football regularly and scoring goals and if that helps BSC win the league then so be it. There’s no hard feelings.”

Following Ferris out the door is another ex-BSC player, midfielder Ricardo Corrieri. His game time has been limited at K-Park and gaffer Billy Stark said:“Ricardo and Aidan did well for BSC last season and the club moved to bring them in but we have our own players in mind.

“We were happy to have them in the squad but they like any player want to play games on a regular basis.

“They are two cracking boys with good attitudes and we wish them well.”
