SILVER LINING FOR KYLE IN BELFAST

Three personal bests at U15 championsh­ips in Northern Ireland

The 14-year-old was in fine form at the Mary Peters Track in sunny Belfast as he took second place in the under-15 section.

Competing against a very strong field, the Calderglen High School pupil broke two club records on his way to a total points score of 2787 and he just missed out on gold by 35 points.

The day started well for Kyle, with a ver y strong hurdles t i me of 12.34 seconds, which was followed up by a huge throw of 12.36m in the shot put, beating his previous personal best and Whitemoss U15 club record.

Next up was the high jump and the S cott is h i ndoor champion di d not disappoint. Kyle managed to clear a fantastic PB of 1.76m to put himself in pole position after three events.

In the long jump Kyle produced a good leap of 5.71m to keep himself in pole position by six points going into the last event, the 800m, where he was edged out in the last 100m and had to settle for second place.

Kyle finished with a personal best points total of 2787, which is a new club record, and with PBs in the high jump and shot put, it was a fantastic effort.

The points total of 2787 now moves Kyle up to sixth place in the UK rankings for U15.

It has been a fantastic season for the Whitemoss athlete and his coach Alan Forbes, with national titles indoor and outdoors in both pentathlon and individual events.

Kyle is now looking forward to a two week break before winter training starts for the indoor season, which will see the youngster step up to the U17 rankings.
