- Paul Thomson

Cameron Lang and Abby Brennan were the big winners at the East Kilbride Tennis Club Championships earlier this month.

Cameron claimed the men’s singles title after coming from a set down to beat Luke Quigley in three sets, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the club courts within Calderglen Country Park.

He followed that up with his second trophy of the day, teaming up with Derek Laid to claim the men’s doubles title.

The duo beat Quigley and his partner Jonathan Arthur in straight sets, winning comfortably 6-1, 6-1.

Abby enjoyed straight set success as well as she took home the women’s singles trophy after a tight contest with Jennifer Boyd, winning 6-4, 7-5 on a sun-kissed afternoon.

The losing finalists in the men’s and women’s singles teamed up in the mixed doubles and put their individual disappointments behind them to claim the trophy. They beat Cameron and Shirley Lang 7-5, 7-5 to take home the spoils.

Jennifer experienced that winning feeling again in the ladies’doubles when she got some revenge over her singles conqueror. She teamed up with Aileen Morris to defeat Brennan and partner Shirley Lang in three sets.

Meanwhile, in the youth section Aaron Hodge came out on top in a close contest in the under-10 section, beating Ben Mowat 7-5.

In the under-eight final, played in 10-point tie breaks, Callum McNair prevailed with as 10-5, 5-10, 10-8 success over Ruari Arthur.

Finally, finals were held for new members to the club. In the men’s section Alan McNair triumphed with a 6-0 victory over Jonathan Arthur. In the ladies section Emma Hodge claimed a 6-2 victory over Linda Naismith.
