What is your view on the big Brexit talks?

Negotiations with the EU gather pace

- Mark Pirie

As negotiations rumble on with the European Union over Brexit, Britain faces an uncertain future.

The News took to the streets to get the views of the East Kilbride public on how both sides are fairing in the ongoing talks.

Michael Ross from Newlandsmuir said: “It’s still early in the negotiations but I don’t feel like we are in a good position to come to the table at the moment.

“I would have liked to stay within the union. For me, it’s essential that we stay within the single market.”

William Lannigan, alongside brother Edward, planned to adopt a wait-and-see attitude regarding the negotiations.

William said: “I am worried about how it could hit the economy. It probably won’t be my generation that feels the pinch. It will be the next and then the next.”

Edward from Greenhills added: “I voted Remain and it seems that Scotland is just being dragged along as part of these talks.”

Lindsay McDade voted Leave and feared both sides were holding back.

“We just don’t know what to expect,” he said. “It might be better without being part of the EU and open up trade options with other countries.”

Andrew Perry was preparing for a bumpy ride and said: “You have to expect both sides to put up a bit of a fight. You’ve just got to hope the people negotiating are on the right course.”
