A teenage knife thug is facing detention after admitting stabbing a young man to the danger of his life.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard how an early-morning drinking session at a flat in the Village ended in violence – with the victim’s liver slashed.

Sheriff Ray Small told the 17-year-old that detention was an option he will consider.

A teen knife thug is facing detention after admitting stabbing a young man to the danger of his life.

The 17-year-old , who lives in Glasgow, who cannot legally be named, was originally charged with attempted murder but pled guilty to a reduced charge of assault to the danger of life.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard how the accused, then aged 16, knifed his 19-year-old victim, causing him to suffer massive blood loss when the blade sliced through his liver.

On the night of the attack he had gone to a flat in Glebe Street with the accused for an earlymorning drinking session.

Fiscal depute Callum Forsyth said: “At around 1.40am on January 29, the accused, along with the complainer, arrived at the flat and consumed alcohol.

“A short time later they began to argue with each other...there was an altercation and they began pushing and shoving one another.

“The householder tried to separate them.

“The accused then went into the kitchen, picked up a black-handled kitchen knife and walked back into the living room towards the complainer and said ‘do you want me to f ***** g stab you?’

“He then stabbed him to the centre of the abdomen, at the sternum.”

An attempt was made by the householder to disarm the accused as the complainer reportedly repeated over and over “I’ve just been stabbed”.

The court was told they were both removed from the flat and the complainer ran towards the Village area where he pleaded with a passer-by to call an ambulance.

An ambulance was called and police on patrol were flagged down.

Officers drove the injured teen straight to Hairmyres Hospital.

Mr Forsyth added: “He was taken into recuscitation in A&E where he became medically unstable due to blood loss.

“He was given a blood transfusion and a CT scan discovered he had a nine centimetre laceration to his liver.”

The victim had keyhole surgery to repair the wound and spent several days in hospital.

The consultant surgeon described the injury as a “sliced deep stab wound” and estimated that he had lost two litres of blood.

He has since made a full recovery but has been left permanently disfigured.

The accused was arrested less than two hours later at his home address.

Following interview the first offender was cautioned and charged.

His defence agent informed the court that his client is employed and being earmarked for a promotion.

He added that he has been nominated for employee of the month more than once, saying: “The organisation have been made aware of the fact he was remanded in custody at the beginning of the year on this matter.

“Since he was released from custody he has a much more mature attitude to work.”

However, he added: “I appreciate this is still a serious matter.”

Adjourning the case until October 31 for reports and continuing bail, Sheriff Ray Small told the teenager: “I take it you understand that although this is the first time you have had a conviction it’s a very serious one and detention is still a possibility. I will consider this next time.”
