been caused through this deliberate act of vandalism.

“Parents and the school community are also angry about what has happened. We would ask the local community for their assistance in reporting this type of behaviour to the police. Police Scotland are investigating this incident.”

Councillor Buchanan said this week: “I am shocked that South Park Primary’s MUGA pitch has been targeted in this way.

“It is a fantastic facility for the school and the pupils and for the wider community and is well-used outwith school hours.”

PC Lucie Black is from the safer communities team at East Kilbride police.

She said: “The pitch at South Park Primary was targeted between Thursday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 26 and a large section of the astroturf cut away.

“This is an appalling incident of what only can be described as wanton, deliberate vandalism to a valuable asset not only for the school but the wider community.

“Mindless acts such as this deprive our children of much-needed facilities which help promote healthy living and we would ask the public for their assistance to help us catch those responsible.

“If you witnessed anyone acting suspiciously near or at the pitches over the September Weekend please contact us on 101.”
