Town centre parking
East Kilbride News online readers responded to changes at the Olympia car park.
EK, East Kilbride bosses have brought the facility into line with other areas of the shopping centre.
A new token payment system is in place, there is improved signage and a renaming of car parks.
However, Jim Ferguson said: “Should be free parking in town centre car parks.”
Carol Imrie posted:“Parking charges should be scrapped. Surely the centre should be encouraging visitors [and] not sending them off to the Fort and Silverburn etc.”
Tracy Travers said:“Should be free like the rest of the shopping centres.”
Lisa Baird McMillan said:“Don’t agree with paying for parking when you’re spending money in their shops.”
But Richard Dingwall posted: “Everyone banging on about ridiculous parking charges. It’s cheap as chips! Try parking in Glasgow city centre...”
Incinerator row
Readers took an interest in plans to build a 90-metre tall incinerator in Blantyre – with a campaign group insisting East Kilbride residents would suffer from pollution.
James Gillespie said:“There is an old saying –‘what goes up, must come down’.”
But Derek Reid commented: “Surely at this height any airborne emissions and particles will be virtually nil to anyone?”
