I fear for community . . and also my family
I have lived in East Kilbride all my life and currently work for HMRC in PlazaTower. I get a great deal of satisfaction from my position there and would like to continue on in the civil service long term. I am involved in various local organisations and care about the future of East Kilbride and I fear the community will be irreparably damaged if HMRC were to leave the town. On a personal level, having to commute would be particularly difficult. My mother recently suffered a heart attack and requires my support. At the moment I am able to visit before and after work, plus lunchtimes if needed. My grandfather is also dealing with a number of long-term conditions which means family help is necessary. Obviously, the health and wellbeing of my family is paramount. If I had to commute to work [in Glasgow] I would be unable to devote the amount of attention that these family members need. Being out of easy reach would add serious stress to my life while also increasing the anxiety of my mother who needs the reassurance of knowing I can be quickly reached. My concerns about the moving of HMRC are, therefore, both for my community and my own quality of life.
