Bobbies on the beat

The News went on the beat with EK South’s new community cops to find out how their presence was impacting on the local community since they went‘back-to-basics’.

Alanna Fiona O’Donnell wrote: “It’s a really great sight to see and must give comfort to the elderly and other vulnerable people – as well as a deterrent to anyone thinking of carrying out any shenanigans.”

Annette Russell said:“I’ve seen these two officers a few times and have had a laugh and a chat with them...it is very reassuring to have local police that are in the community. Hope it continues!”

Hans van Henten posted: “About time excellent initiative.”

Charlotte McGrath wrote:“I made a comment about bringing back bobbies on the beat couple of weeks ago after seeing vandalism in the town centre – long may they continue.”

Elderly ward closure

A care of the elderly ward at Hairmyres Hospital was closed with patients moved to another ward as part of a services review.

Emma-Jane Swallow wrote: “Shocking the size of East Kilbride and they’re closing down services that are needed.”

Lesley Turton said:“This is a disgrace for a newly-built hospital and every department is either closing or transferring. What was the point of building this hospital? What a waste.”

Linda Watson Mullen posted: “That’s a disgrace, the nurses in that ward were fantastic.”
