Moneeb leads promotion bid
Moneeb Iqbal has been named as the new captain of East Kilbride Cricket Club for 2018.
The Torrance House side were relegated from the Western District Premier Division this year and Iqbal replaces Josh Johnston in the role.
Iqbal has great experience, having played for Durham and Scotland for many years. An RHB and RA leg-break all-rounder, he has performed on the county and international stage.
He joined the club in 2014 and has produced many great performances with ball and bat.
One of the many memorable performances was in the Scottish Cup last season against Aberdeen and he scored was a century against West Of Scotland on the road to winning the Rowan Cup.
The club’s joint-secretary Gaurav Rajmohan said: “The club thanks Joshua Johnston for his efforts this season, which were merely ruined by the weather.
“Having been faced with the task of captaining last season at late notice, Joshua bravely took every opportunity to improve and lead the squad in a respectable effort.
“Joshua’s valiant efforts are viewed as courageous and stoic in difficult circumstances by the club.
“This gritty performance highlights how Joshua has continued to be a club stalwart.
“It is now the club’s absolute ambition, with Moneeb leading the team, to achieve promotion back to the top division at the first time of asking.”
Meanwhile, the club’s junior convenor Michelle Kiely is stepping down.
She said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time time in that position and seen many boys and girls go from strength to strength as they represented our club.
“I have nominated Stephen Newman to succeed me. This will become official after the senior club AGM in November.
“Stephen has experience in this position and is familiar with the powers that be in Scottish Cricket.
“I know that with his committee he will work hard at doing all he can for our players.”
