Six of the best for YM

-

East Kilbride YM marched into the semi-finals of the Douglas Smith League Cup with a thumping 6-1 win over 10-man Broomhouse.

The hosts had to come from behind to win, though. A double from Jordan Fletcher plus strikes from Cammy McCulloch, Mike Carroll, Ryan Kelly and Ross McDonagh helped them roar back from Broomhouse’s opener.

Broomhouse, who pipped YM for promotion to the Premier League last season and who were yet to lose a goal in this season’s League Cup, started well and YM keeper Fraser Campbell had to make two excellent stops early on to keep the score level.

So it was no surprise when YM fell behind five minutes before the break when midfielder Craig Scott collected a throw-in, strode forward and fired a low shot into the net.

Three minutes after going behind YM were level thanks to a superb McCulloch free-kick from 20 yards.

On the stroke of half time, Tocher and full back Kelly combined well to tee-up Carroll who turned his marker before slotting the ball past Broomhouse keeperTennant.

Moments later Tennant could only parry a Craig Kincaid shot and Fletcher followed up to volley home a third goal forYM.

Broomhouse went down to 10 men when midfielder Harry Clift was dismissed for two quick-fire yellow cards and that virtually ended the match as a contest.

Fletcher put YM 4-1 in front, finishing off a fine move, before Kelly added a fifth with a splendid free-kick.

McDonagh scored a sixth in the final minute to complete the win.

YM will now play Premier League champions Dalziel in the semi-finals.

On Saturday YM host Hillwood BC in the West of Scotland Cup at Hamilton Palace, kick off 1pm.

Meanwhile, YM’35s won 5-3 on Friday evening in the Kenny Parry Cup with Garry O’Hanlon scoring four and Sam McCulloch the other.

The GGPL side lost 6-2 at Crookston Castle.
