Emotional tributes have been paid by the family of a “wonderful” teenager tragically killed crossing the East Kilbride Kingsway.

Fifteen-year-old Megan Scott was struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing on the busy A749 near to the Whirlies roundabout.

Medics battled to save the Calderglen High School pupil by the roadside but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened during evening rush hour last Wednesday. The 18-year-old driver of the VW Scirocco involved was uninjured and a police investigation is ongoing.

Megan’s devastated mum Fiona told the News this week: “She was my whole world – it’s heartbreaking.”

Dad David added: “This has destroyed many lives, not just Megan’s. I don’t think we will ever be able to recover from this.”

The heartbroken family of Megan Scott have told how the tragic teenager dreamed of becoming a doctor after battling back from leukaemia as a child.

The determined East Kilbride youngster never let the illness beat her – and vowed to use her experience to help others later in life when she went into remission in 2012.

But the fourth-year Calderglen High School pupil will sadly never fulfil her dream after being tragically knocked down in a fatal road crash on the Kingsway at around 6pm last Wednesday.

Speaking to the News on Monday, mum Fiona said: “She never let her leukaemia define her, it was part of her and her positivity shone through.

“She survived and she wanted to help people. She wanted to be a doctor to help other children.

“She always used to say she would keep make-up in her doctor’s coat to make people look pretty and feel really good when they were unwell.”

Step-dad David said: “I think, during that time, Megan showed a different side to her personality. She was brave and determined – nothing was going to beat her.”

Hundreds of tributes have poured in for the beautiful young dancer who lost her life so tragically.

Megan’s devastated parents and step-parents this week described their “wonderful” daughter as a “ray of sunshine” with an infectious smile that would light up any room.

“Megan was my whole world,” said Fiona. “My heart just beats with her.

“We are just in shock. I’ve never felt so sick in my whole life. It’s heartbreaking.”

Megan’s dad David fought back tears as he told how a frantic search for their missing daughter ended in tragedy.

“Megan was supposed to be back home at a particular time and she called to say she was at McDonald’s,” he said. “She didn’t come back. “We were concerned that she had maybe got lost or something so Fiona and I went looking for her.

“Then we found out there had been an accident.”

Step-mum Valda added: “We were hoping that she was just in shock somewhere not knowing how to get home because they’d closed the road.”

The family then received the devastating news that Megan had been run over whilst crossing the dual carriageway at a pedestrian crossing on the A749 near to the Whirlies roundabout.

Medics desperately battled to save her by the roadside but she died from her injuries shortly after the collision.

Megan’s funeral arrangements will be announced later this week once a postmortem is carried out.

Dad David said: “She was our beautiful daughter, she was a wonderful positive person who always put others first.

“You prepare your whole life for the eventuality of your grandparents and parents passing away but you shouldn’t ever have to deal with it for your own child.

“This has destroyed many lives, not just Megan’s. I don’t think we will ever be able to recover from this.”

Described as a ‘typical 15-year-old’, Megan loved her friends, music, make-up and dancing for local dance and musical theatre group Funcise.

Once a devoted Directioner, the pop music fan enjoyed going to concerts. Some of her favourite moments include going to see Drake and a surprise on-stage appearance with Katy Perry during her illness.

Ever the social butterfly, Megan was hugely popular among her peers and enjoyed nothing more than socialising, chatting and sharing pictures with friends on social media.

Comforted by the many heartfelt tributes being paid to his daughter, David said: “I’m not surprised by this – she had so many friends.

“She went to Calderglen but probably knew the majority of people her age in Duncanrig and St Andrew’s and St Bride’s.”

Valda said: “She loved her phone – it was the window to her friends – and she always wanted to be around her friends.”

Megan was part of a loving family spending her time between the family home in St Leonards with mum Fiona Lawlor, 35, and step-dad David Lawlor, 34, and the family home in East Mains with her dad David Scott, 40, and stepmum Valda Scott, 40.

She had five siblings: Ryan Styles, 18, James Scott, 13, Murphy Woods, 11, Layla Scott, 3, and Xander Scott, 2.

Step-dad David went on: “Because of her age and the amount of kids who all knew each other through social media, this has touched so many families.”

Dozens of floral tributes have been laid at the dual carriageway near to the spot where Megan lost her life. The family have been collecting the tributes to create a memory box.

Thanking the people of the area for their support and affection during their darkest hours, and speaking on behalf of the family, Fiona said: “We would just like to thank everyone for their support and their kindness and, of course, the emergency services and anyone who helped Megan. We want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support we have had.”
