A starry-eyed performing arts student dreaming of a career on the West End stage is heading to Tinseltown to hone her skills.

Talented 18-year-old Morgan Milne will travel to Hollywood later this month as part of a trip organised by The MGA Academy of Performing Arts, where she is currently training for a diploma in dance.

During the trip to Los Angeles, the Hairmyres teenager will spend a week learning some tricks of the trade from industry professionals and take part in a series of intensive dance workshops at the renowned IDA Hollywood dance studio on Hollywood Boulevard, which is home to many top TV shows, including Dancing With The Stars.

Earlier this year the Edinburgh-based academy became the first full-time professional training academy in Scotland to be awarded accreditation by CDET, the UK’s quality assurance and membership body for the professional dance, drama and musical theatre industries.

Morgan, who plans to work as a professional performer when she graduates from the academy, explained: “I’m really excited to see other dancers perform in Los Angeles as I imagine their style will be really different to ours.

“Getting to take part in the workshops will be an amazing experience for me and I can’t wait to see what the competition is like in America.”

Morgan began dancing at Bernadette Sloan School of Dance when she was a child and last year decided to audition for a full-time place at The MGA Academy.

She added: “When I graduate, I’d love to gain employment working as a dancer on a cruise ship and, eventually, I’d love to work on the West End.

“My dream is to be cast in Chicago as it’s my favourite musical and I always go to see it when it’s on at the theatre in Glasgow.

“When I received my acceptance letter from The MGA Academy it was the best feeling in the world.

“Training here has been hard work but it’s definitely been the best decision I’ve ever made as I get to spend every day dancing and my technique has improved so much.”

International choreographer Murray Grant, creative director of The MGA Academy, said: “Our trip to Los Angeles will give students the opportunity to experience and appreciate the theatre and culture of the USA while getting to enjoy all that one of the best cities in the world has to offer.

“This year, Morgan and her classmates will get to take part in masterclasses with some top dancers and choreographers and this experience will stand them in great stead for future auditions.

“We would love to welcome anyone from East Kilbride with similar aspirations to Morgan to get in touch to find out more about Fierce Theatre Schools and the range of full-time courses we offer here at The MGA Academy.”
