Action points agreed on councillor’s tour

Concerns are raised

- Nicola Findlay

East Mains Community Council were joined by new councillor Joe Fagan on a walkabout to see first hand the problems faced by local residents.

A number of issues were identified by the East Kilbride Central North councillor and chair of the community council, Bill Arthur, said it proved to be a very useful exercise for all involved.

Issues identified included the condition of roads and footpaths in the Maxwell Drive and Whitemoss areas and vehicles driving the wrong way on the Maxwell Drive one-way system.

A blocked drain on Maxwell Drive has also been inspected and will be cleared and plans are now being made for an evening time patrol of the Village by traffic wardens to deal with inconsiderate parking on Main Street and in the surrounding area.

Mr Arthur said: “We have been trying to organise a walkabout for a number of months now and we were delighted when Cllr Fagan agreed to join us.

“He has identified a number of issues he is keen to pursue and we hope it will be a step towards resolving them.”

Councillor Fagan said: “The best way to get to grips with the pressing local issues is to get out and about in the community.

“We all do that in our own ways but the Community Council and I walked a stretch of the Village and East Mains together for an afternoon and it was very worthwhile because we did it as a group.

“Many of the issues we picked up on are recurring ones but we identified new problems too that have now been reported to the appropriate officials at the council.

“From road safety issues and parking to grounds enquiries and drainage, we covered a great deal. There were 25 separate action points and I hope to see significant progress on as many of these points as possible.”
