Camera Club The start of the season has gone well with good attendances and members sharing holiday images on the first evening back. There were also tutorials on photography basics and technical subjects. On October 5, club members selected digital images for their upcoming match-an-image competitions later in the year against Lesmahagow and Motherwell camera clubs. The first internal competition judging took place on October 12 when Libby Smith from Carluke was the judge and the setter of the competition theme, ‘A Book Title’, where the members had to submit a digital image that represented a book title. The winner of the competition was Joyce Manson with ‘The Right Attitude to Rain’, a book by the author

Alexander McCall Smith. In second place was ‘Rooftops’ by David Spinks and third was ‘Turner & Hooch’ by Bob McLachlan. On October 26, the club is at home for the first GDPU image battle against Kilmaurs Camera Club. Full club information is available by visiting www.strathavencameraclub.co.uk

The group, which aims to raise money to put into local community causes and people, regularly organise events in the town with the bonfire showpiece next month one of the largest. The event, on Saturday, November 4, is regarded as the biggest for the group outside of the gala week festivities. Tickets can be purchased throughout the town for £3 each with a family of four charged £10. Children under the age of five get in for free. There are a range of businesses and groups who are selling the tickets including: The Barber Shop, Craigs Newsagents, Wester Overton PTAl, The Wee Sweetie Shop and The Smiddy, among others in the town.
