LaFontaines head back to the Barrowlands

- Kirsten McStay

Lanarkshire band The LaFontaines are hitting the Barrowlands next month following the release of their much-anticipated second album.

Common Problem, which is produced by The Courteeners’ Joe Cross, will be officially released this Friday but has already sold hundreds of copies during pre-sale. The past few months have been a whirlwind for the Motherwell and Wishaw lads between the album, writing music and performing at the likes of TRNSMT and Reading Festival, but lead vocalist Kerr Okan managed to take the time out his busy schedule to tell The Ticket all about it.

He said: “We’re all really, really proud of this album. It’s something that has had a lot of work and thought put into it and has been very well produced. We’re just really looking forward to finally releasing it.”

Their UK tour will begin this month once the album is released this week (October 27) and they will be performing at their sell out gig in the Barrowlands on November 18. Kerr said: “We sold out on the day last time we played there but this time we sold out two months before the gig, which is amazing.

“We all used to go to the Barras as wee guys to see our favourite bands and stuff, so to go there and play our own music is just something else.”

He continued: “Out of everywhere we have played, The Barras is the best venue in the world, there is just something about the atmosphere. It is immense, we are looking forward to it.”

The Fonts have not only been busy making music but have also released a book called The LaFontaines solve 12 of Life’s Most Common Problems’’.

The book, which is 100 pages long, is only available when the album is purchased from a certain bundle on the website but Kerr says he is just as proud of the book as he is of the album.

He said: “Jamie Keenan (the drummer) has such a different insight to life.

“He looks at the world in a totally different light and has put together a collection of true stories from travelling around the world, and on tour, into one place.

“The books have been a huge hit already with some really funny never-heard-before stories.”

The follow-up to their incredible debut album Class will be released on October 27.
