EK kids see off Clyde

-

East Kilbride FC continued their fine form with a commanding 3-0 win over Clyde in the U20 SPFL West Development League last week.

A Liam Coogans strike and a double from captain Liam Craig gave Kilby another three points to leapfrog Ayr in the table.

There was not much between the sides in the opening exchanges, but EK took the lead in 20 minutes when fine play from Cassidy and Scott Brodie set up Coogans, who unleashed an unstoppable drive high into the net.

With Kilby now well on top, the second goal arrived in 34 minutes. Craig and Coogans combined on the left, before the skipper fired high into the net from inside the box to ensure the home side took a two-goal advantage into the break.

Clyde started the second half better but could find no way through the EK back line, who were defending well.

After weathering the early pressure EK made the points safe on the hour, when Brodie, Cassidy and Anderson combined before finding Craig in the box. The winger found the top corner with a stunning left foot shot.

The Kilby skipper almost made it a memorable hat-trick against his old club, but struck the crossbar 10 minutes from time.

Morgan Smith also struck the post late on, but the Kilby kids had to settle for three goals and a well deserved three points.
