YM fight back to draw

-

East Kilbride YM had to come from behind to draw with bottom-of-thetable Bearsden to preserve their unbeaten start to the season.

The Caledonian League 1B frontrunners had to rely on Mikey Carroll and Cammy McCulloch to get them out of jail against 10 men.

Following heavy overnight rain, the fixture was switched to Petershill’s 4G park at the last moment .

Craig Tocher, Mikey Carroll and Craig Fry all came close for YM in the opening minutes and when Tocher closed down goalkeeper Benson, the ball rebounded into the path of Carroll who netted but the referee adjudged him to be offside.

Bearsden came close with efforts from Harvey and Clougherty bringing the best out of YM keeper Fraser Campbell.

But in 25 minutes Bearsden took the lead when Harvey’s 20-yard shot found the net. And five minutes later they doubled their advantage when a YM corner was cleared out as far as Clougherty who fired home.

Within a minute, YM had pulled one goal back when Carroll found the net from close range.

In YM’s next attack a looping header from McCulloch was palmed on to the crossbar by the keeper to deny him the equaliser.

The second half had hardly started when Bearsden’s central defender Robertson was sent packing for his second yellow card.

YM peppered the Bearsden goalmouth to no avail but with time running out it took a spectacular angled drive from Cammy McCulloch from James Cameron’s ball in behind the full back to bring the sides level.

Elsewhere, YM’s GGPL side defeated Colquhoun Amateurs 2-1 with Scott Campbell and Murray McClure finding the net. On Friday evening YM’s 35s defeated Park Sports Project 5-3 in the Kenny Parry Cup with goals from Willie Dawson, Garry O’Hanlon, Paul McAneny, Scott McEwan and David Higgins.
