Mum’s help for victims of Mexican earthquake
A Stewartfield mum hosted a disaster relief fundraiser in her home to help victims of the deadly Mexico City earthquake.
Mum-of-three Monica O’Neill, a Mexican national, was horrified by the devastating tragedy that rocked her homeland and claimed the lives of over 200 people in September.
The 40-year-old threw a tea party with a raffle and tombola and friends and neighbours helped raise £200.
The cash will be donated to Mexican actors’ Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal’s charity campaign to help earthquake victims through the funding platform Omaze.
Monica said:“I was shocked to hear so many people had lost their lives in this earthquake and, as Mexico is my home, I wanted to do something to help the victim’s families and survivors.
“Thanks to the local businesses who donated prizes and my friends who gave up their time to show their support.”
