Red Deer celebrate a season of success

Players honoured at presentati­on dinner dance

The curtain has fallen on another successful season at Red Deer Bowling Club and members turned out in force to celebrate their triumphs of 2017.

On Friday, October 13, the club hosted their annual presentati­on dinner dance at the Red Deer Centre in Westwood.

During the past year, Red Deer have impressed in external competitio­ns, claiming league titles and trophies aplenty.

Vice-president Anne Cartledge was on hand alongside her husband and green convener Robert Cartledge to present the prizes to the winners and runners-up. This years prize winners were: ClubTriple­s – winners: Robert Cartledge, Josie Sherry and Jim Neil; runners-up: Tam Cartledge, Mary McKie and Ritchie Sheridan.

Jubilee Triples – winners: Willie Killin, Sharon Hendry and Stuart Nicholls; runners-up: Danny Lithgow, Kirsten Mills and Cathie McMillan. Gents Triples – winners: Jim Neil, Ken Macaulay and Dougie Niven; runners-up: Davie Laverty, Bill McNee and Ritchie Sheridan.

Ladies Pairs – winners: Cathie McCrorie and May McMillan; runners-up: Margaret Miller and Mary McKie.

Fairs Pairs – winners: Elspeth and Gerry Briody; runners-up: Tam and Robert Cartledge.

Club Fours – winners: Robert Cartledge, Davie Laverty, Mary McKie and Anne McManus; runners-up: Ken Macaulay, Margaret Barlas, Margaret Miller and Cameron Barbour.

Generation Game – winners: Margaret Miller, Neil Loughlin, Logan Johnson and Ritchie Sheridan; runners-up: Ivan Prior, Kane Thomson, Margaret Barlas and George Jordan.

Kerr Trophy – winner: Robert Cartledge, Peter Sime, Colin Porterfiel­d and Peter Anderson; runners-up: Maureen Cunningham, Kirstie Mills, Margaret Barlas and Cathie McMillan.

Two Bowl Pairs – winners: Ian Richmond and Kirsten Mills; runnersup: Robert Cartledge and Margaret Barlas.

Past Presidents Cup – winner: Robert Cartledge; runner-up: Tam Cartledge.

Monday Night Sweep – winner: Martin Esler. Junior winner: Logan Johnson

Junior Singles – winner: Greg Barbour; runner-up: Kane Thomson.

Junior Pairs – winners: Cameron Barbour and Logan Johnson; runnersup: Greg Barbour and Craig Sheridan.

Balloted Pairs – winners: Ritchie Sheridan and Tam Cartledge; runnersup: Josie Sherry and Ken Macaulay.

Mixed Pairs – winners: Elspeth and Gerry Briody; runners-up: Debbie and Grahame Johnson.

Nominated Pairs – winners: Martin and Chris McGeough; runners-up: Tam and Robert Cartledge.

Presidents Cup – winner: Robert Cartledge; runner-up: Tam Cartledge.

Ladies Championsh­ip – winner: Mary McKie; runner-up: May McMillan.

Gents Championsh­ip – winner: Martin Esler; runner-up: Ian Richmond.

Meanwhile, in external competitio­ns, there was also a great deal of success for Red Deer members.

The gents and ladies teams both won their divisions in the East Kilbride and District Bowling League.

At the EK and District Civic competitio­n, Tam Cartledge won the gents singles, Ritchie Sheridan and Gerry Briody won the gents pairs, Margaret Barlas and May McMillan won the ladies pairs, while there was victory for Arthur Meldrum, Ian Lonsdale, Tony Smithson and Davie Laverty in the gents fours.

In the Top Ten events Tam Cartledge won the singles, Martin and Chris McGeough won the pairs, Robert Cartledge, Ritchie Sheridan and Stuart Nicholls landed the triples title and John McCrorie, Gerry Briody, Martin Esler and Ian Richmond won the fours.

Finally, in the Lanarkshir­e and District Bowling League, Red Deer finished third overall and they claimed a mid-table finish in the District 26 Seniors League.
