CHRISTMAS JOBS BOOST
Yankee Candle and Smiggle to open
There is another pre-Christmas jobs boost for East Kilbride with two major high-street names opening their doors in the town.
Shoppers will be spoilt for choice when leading stationery retailer, Smiggle opens its doors before Christmas.
And lifestyle brand the Yankee Candle Company has already opened its doors.
It is understood Yankee Candle’s arrival has created up to 10 jobs.
With a presence in over 50 countries, Yankee Candle is a world-renowned lifestyle brand, specialising in scented candles, candleholders, accessories, and dinnerware.
The popular retailer started welcoming shoppers to its 1700 sq ft East Kilbride store on Friday.
Founded in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, Smiggle is now a global stationery brand with a reputation for using bold colours and quirky graphics on many of its products.
Situated in EK, East Kilbride’s Plaza Mall, the 2000 sq ft store is scheduled to open its doors in time for Christmas.
Commenting on the stores setting up shop, EK, East Kilbride centre director, Ian McLelland said: “Smiggle and Yankee are two world leading brands and it is great to welcome them both to EK.
“There has been a lot of activity over the past few months with a number of new stores set to open before Christmas, creating jobs and ensuring shoppers have even more choice when they visit EK, East Kilbride.”
News about the new retailers comes on the back of the reopening of a pop-up Disney Store at EK, East Kilbride.
The outlet closed its doors in East Kilbride three years ago, much to the disappointment of youngsters and parents alike.
It was announced in July that the pop-up store featuring a range of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars merchandise will be open for the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, the latest Yankee Candle and Smiggle jobs boost comes on the back of an announcement that top toy retailer The Entertainer is set to open its doors in EK in the next few weeks.
Advanced discussions are also underway with Canadian coffee shop Tim Hortons about a move to the centre.
