Yan­kee Can­dle and Smiggle to open

There is another pre-Christ­mas jobs boost for East Kil­bride with two ma­jor high-street names open­ing their doors in the town.

Shop­pers will be spoilt for choice when lead­ing sta­tionery re­tailer, Smiggle opens its doors be­fore Christ­mas.

And life­style brand the Yan­kee Can­dle Com­pany has al­ready opened its doors.

It is un­der­stood Yan­kee Can­dle’s ar­rival has cre­ated up to 10 jobs.

With a pres­ence in over 50 coun­tries, Yan­kee Can­dle is a world-renowned life­style brand, spe­cial­is­ing in scented can­dles, can­dle­hold­ers, ac­ces­sories, and din­ner­ware.

The pop­u­lar re­tailer started wel­com­ing shop­pers to its 1700 sq ft East Kil­bride store on Fri­day.

Founded in 2003 in Mel­bourne, Aus­tralia, Smiggle is now a global sta­tionery brand with a rep­u­ta­tion for us­ing bold colours and quirky graph­ics on many of its prod­ucts.

Sit­u­ated in EK, East Kil­bride’s Plaza Mall, the 2000 sq ft store is sched­uled to open its doors in time for Christ­mas.

Com­ment­ing on the stores set­ting up shop, EK, East Kil­bride cen­tre director, Ian McLel­land said: “Smiggle and Yan­kee are two world lead­ing brands and it is great to wel­come them both to EK.

“There has been a lot of ac­tiv­ity over the past few months with a num­ber of new stores set to open be­fore Christ­mas, cre­at­ing jobs and en­sur­ing shop­pers have even more choice when they visit EK, East Kil­bride.”

News about the new re­tail­ers comes on the back of the reopen­ing of a pop-up Dis­ney Store at EK, East Kil­bride.

The out­let closed its doors in East Kil­bride three years ago, much to the dis­ap­point­ment of young­sters and par­ents alike.

It was an­nounced in July that the pop-up store fea­tur­ing a range of Dis­ney, Marvel and Star Wars mer­chan­dise will be open for the next 12 months.

Mean­while, the lat­est Yan­kee Can­dle and Smiggle jobs boost comes on the back of an an­nounce­ment that top toy re­tailer The En­ter­tainer is set to open its doors in EK in the next few weeks.

Ad­vanced dis­cus­sions are also un­der­way with Cana­dian cof­fee shop Tim Hor­tons about a move to the cen­tre.
