An upgrade and increased capacity are needed according to commuters and politician­s and folk were keen to have their say.

Elaine Young said: “Need to improve on parking availabili­ty. Try finding a parking space in Hairmyres car park.”

Linda McCreadie said:“Why don’t they cancel the unnecessar­y dualling of the Strathaven road and put the money into upgrading the railway line?”

Janet Gordon said: “As a regular user of this line the biggest issue I have with ScotRail is the lack of carriages at peak times and the newer carriages seem to have less seats which isn’t helping.”

Brian Cairns posted: “The class 156 diesel units on the route are more than 28 years old. Apart from the Barrhead and Kilmarnock line, all other lines are electrifie­d.”

Deborah King said:“The lack of carriages on peak services in the last week has been abysmal.

“Having to stand from Hairmyres to Glasgow Central frequently is unacceptab­le when paying £1k for an annual season ticket.” Pitch perfect for school

News that Allsports Constructi­on and Maintenanc­e Ltd will repair South Park Primary School’s MUGA pitch for free went down well.

Frank McLaughlin said: “Great to hear a kind-hearted company stepped in to repair the damage.”
