School in running foraward
Duncanrig Secondary School have been nominated for a top prize at next month’s Sunday Mail Scottish Sports Awards.
Now they face an anxious wait to see if they have made the shortlist, which will be revealed later this month. The Sunday Mail and
the national agency for sport, have come together again this year to recognise excellence throughout Scottish sports by awarding our sportsmen, women and teams for their outstanding achievements throughout 2017.
And the Westwood school have been put forward in the School Sport Award category which will honour the school that does the most to develop the young sporting talent in Scotland. Teachers have worked closely with Active Schools Coordinators to provide a pathway for pupils to compete, perform and develop their skills.
Throughout the year they have hosted a large number of both internal and external events, including extracurricular fayres and the ‘Duncanwealth Games,’ with over 100 pupils taking part in all of their events.
Duncanrig have already collected a piece of silverware this year, landing the Sporting High School of the Year prize at EK Sports Council’s annual awards night in May.
And in September they were recognised as a Gold School for the second time in the School Sport Award scheme.
If Duncanrig make the final cut for the Scottish Sports Awards, they will be invited to a star-studded black–tie ceremony at the Doubletree by Hilton Glasgow Central Hotel on Thursday, December 7.
Previous celebrity guests include Sir Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, Jamie Murray, Alan Hansen, Colin Montgomerie, Chris Hoy, Sir Jackie Stewart, Gordon Strachan, Ricky Burns and the Lisbon Lions.
