Kilby stars fight back to ease past Selkirk in cup

Reasons to be cheerful

“In the second half we kept going and once we got the second and third goals, it was a solid, professional performance from us.

“We offered them very little in terms of chances and I was delighted to see Sean get his hat-trick.

“To go away from home and score five goals is great. Not many teams will go down there and win as comfortably as that this season.“

After McKirdy set the game alight, Stark’s side plugged away and eventually got their reward in 35 minutes when Strachan’s free-kick was headed home by Winter for the equaliser.

Ten minutes into the secondhalf Winter doubled his tally for the day when he got on the end of Scott Stevenson’s cross to score.

And within three minutes his hattrick was complete, driving the ball into the net from the edge of the box for 3-1.

On the hour mark Wallace notched his first goal for the club when he got on the end of Strachan’s pass.

And it was Strachan who rounded off the scoring in 89 minutes, slotting the ball past the keeper from Liam Craig’s cross.

Kilby return to league action this weekend when they host Edinburgh University at K-Park, bidding to close the gap on leaders BSC Glasgow who sit three points clear having played two games more.

However, EK were held to a 1-1 draw by the students when the sides met at Peffermill in October and Stark said: “Edinburgh Uni are a young side and they’ve got plenty of legs in the team and we’ve seen before they are capable of causing us problems.

“Our last game came after our heavy (5-0) defeat to East Stirling. Football has a habit of kicking you when you are down and we lost Kevin McCann after five minutes and then David Proctor came off, so 30 minutes in we had made two enforced changes and we were a goal down.

“Serious questions were asked of us that day, but we managed to get the equaliser and we had to settle for a point.

“These are big games coming up, but we are all looking forward to them.

“After the Scottish Cup and East of Scotland matches in the last few weeks, it will be good to play league games consistently now.”
