Corrie’s 5-star success

Strathaven swimmer grabs Scottish titles

-

Corrie Scott warmed up for next year’s Commonwealth Games with five gold medal wins at the Scottish Short Course Championships.

The 24-year-old, who was competing for Edinburgh University, produced some top displays to take home titles in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events. She also won the 100m individual medley and the women’s 4x50m relay in the capital.

Over the course of the weekend she also recorded personal best times in the 200m breaststroke and 100m IM.

And the Strathaven swimmer reckons it was ideal preparation for April’s Games on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Corrie told the News: “It was really good. That’s the most medals I’ve ever won at these Championships, so I’m happy with that.

“Some of the times were not up to where I wanted them to be, but we are training very hard because the main aim is April.

“I still PB’d in some of the events. I’m not normally an IM swimmer, so that was fun and a nice surprise to win it with a PB.

“This was a chance for everyone to see where we are at the moment and I’ve got some stuff to work on.

“I’ve learnt a lot about what I need to do for the Games.”

Corrie now heads to Sheffield this weekend for more action.

She added: “I’m racing at the English Championships to get more race practice in, so it’s a busy time but a very good week for my preparation.”
