Current champ Pam thanks sports council
Pam Clark says it was“a real honour”to be crowned East Kilbride’s top amateur sports personality at last year’s awards ceremony.
The 22-year-old lifted the EK Shield in May for her outstanding performances in trampolining, which included winning the British senior title in 2016.
Eight months on from that success, Pam has now retired from competing to focus on a career in teaching but she remains forever grateful to East Kilbride Sports Council for recognising her achievements over the years.
The St Leonards star has won awards at both junior age groups and completed the set with the adult prize.
Reflecting on her award win, Pam said:“It was a real honour to win it last year.
“The win came just at the end of my trampolining career and it was a nice way to round it off.
“I did well in my junior career and I think I’ve won every individual category over the years, so these awards have always been good to me.
“I’ve been very lucky that I never had any serious injuries during my career and that allowed me to keep competing at the top level for a long time.
“Over the years the support from the sports council has been great. Whether it has been for funding for events or just their support in general, they have helped me a lot.
“I’m very thankful to them because their support allowed me to represent my country, which is what every athlete loves to do.”
Winning the EK prize wasn’t the final accolade of Pam’s career, however, as she went on to reign supreme across the region.
She added: “Winning the East Kilbride award gives you the opportunity to go on to the South Lanarkshire Sports Awards as well and I was delighted to win that prize too, a couple of months later.”
Pam is currently studying for a post-graduate degree in primary school teaching at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).
Pam is set to qualify this summer and she added: “I’m excited for what the future holds. Sport will always be a big part of my life.”
