Beattie readyfor Aussie challenge

-

Beach volleyball star Lynne Beattie insists she will relish the opportunity to take on hosts Australia at this year’s Commonwealth Games.

The 32-year-old, from Eaglesham, will represent Scotland at the Gold Coast Games in April alongside partner Melissa Coutts.

And the Scots’ duo have been handed the toughest of tests in the group stages after being drawn with the hosts and top seeds.

Cyprus and Grenada complete Pool A and Beattie told the News: “We are so excited about the draw.

“It’s not every day you get the chance to play against the host nation at a major Games, in front of 5000 people.

“It’s occasions like this that you always dream of and when we heard we would be playing Australia, we were so excited.

“Now we know who we are playing, we can put all of our focus into our preparations to play each of these teams.

“Cyprus we know well and we are looking forward to another battle against them, while Grenada will bring a different challenge, for sure.”

Team Scotland will have their work cut out on the soft sands of Coolangatta Beachfront and Beattie added: “The ultimate goal is to progress from the group to the quarter finals, but this won’t be easy.

“We plan to take things one match at a time and if we perform well, we will do well.”

The beach volleyball at Gold Coast 2018 will get underway on Friday, April 6. Smashing
