Faith in people is restored

-

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the young man who handed in my purse to Costa Coffee in the Plaza on Tuesday, January 9.

I was so delighted to get it back I didn’t get his name or get a chance to properly thank him.

Thank you also to the staff of Costa Coffee who made every attempt to contact me to let me know my purse had been found.

Restores my faith in human nature that there are still honest people about. Helen Miller, St Leonards

Exceptionalcaregiven

Dear Editor,

During the wintry weather recently my husband slipped and fell in the vicinity of East Kilbride Bus Station.

I should like to put on record the exceptional care and attention he received from the SPT staff there, before the ambulance arrived.

He was then well looked after by the ambulance crew and A&E staff. Many thanks to all involved. The McHughs, via email

DefenceofHairmyres

Dear Editor,

Have to write in defence of our local hospital at Hairmyres during the recent crisis situation.

I fell on black ice on the morning of December 27 and arrived at A&E just after 11am – the waiting time at that point was approximately one hour.

I was taken through at approx 12.15pm and did not get discharged until 3.15pm and throughout that time received every care and attention possible in order for my broken wrist to be manipulated and set into a cast.

That involved being at x-ray twice and being seen by various A&E staff and eventually a team from orthopaedics.

All of the staff remained cheerful, professional and good-natured and never once complained about the amount of patients building up in the waiting area. As they said, they will all get seen, even those who really did not need to be in A&E. Their burden was added to by the lack of gritting both on main walking areas and the roads.

As far as the hospital not reaching their targets; instead of levelling criticism at them, the staff deserve nothing but praise for coping so well in exceptional circumstances. Sandra Miller, Greenhills

Takingequalpaycredit

Dear Editor,

I watched the party political broadcast on behalf of the Labour Party (January 17) and was amazed to hear that they were taking the credit for the fight for equal pay for women.

This must come as a surprise to the many women in East Kilbride who work in the public sector, some of whom had to seek legal advice in their fight for equal pay denied them by the then Labour council. In these days of social media, the electorate are not so easily duped. R Smith, The Murray

Inadequateresponse

Dear Editor,

Thanks to the council and the SNP for inadequate bad weather contingency plans.

Everyone has suffered. Remember this when you vote next time.
